Diagnosis of Dry Skin

Dry skin can be diagnosed by your family doctor or dermatologist by examining the physical appearance of your skin.

Dry skin can be diagnosed by your family doctor or general practitioner by examining the physical appearance of your skin, asking about your medical, social and family history (concerning the skin and other health problems) and identifying risk factors.

However, based on your symptoms, and age, you might be referred to the dermatologist (the specialist doctor on skin disorders) for further medical diagnosis.

At this stage, some tests might be required to identify underlying disease conditions (such as kidney failure} or the presence of skin diseases (such as atopic dermatitis) causing dry skin.
